Too much time on our hands

We are back in Yangon. It was a bit up in the air for a bit with lack of flights and the difficulty of getting a quick turn-around on covid19 tests. In the end we found a flight and with negative results in hand returned. All that was left was a 2 week quarantine- 1 week in a hotel and 1 week at our house. I was a bit apprehensive about the first week, I mean what would I do?

My view. I stared at this quite a bit

Lisa had her own room but Luca and I had to share- much to his obvious excitement.

This was strangely satisfying to watch. First they weed wacked the entire field. Then raked the grass into lines.

The lines were then raked into many piles.

The piles were placed on a tarp, attached to a pole and carried off into the trees. On the last day the guys all looked up at my balcony and waved, they must have noticed my observations.

This was my face upon arrival

After 1 day (I call it the Tom Just)

After 2 days

After 3 days

and after 4, nothing left to shave but the eyebrows.

Everyday at 8,12,and 6 a knock on the door. We would open the door and a tray of food would be there. It was our little portal to the outside world. Oh we would also open the door and set the empty dishes on the tray too. (we were room 326)

The square breakfast meat above I could eat for some reason, but the sausages... I had to find other uses for those.

On Thursday we had a big field trip! We walked down to a side entrance and got tested! The mobile covid cart was kinda cool with the onceler arms that came out and swabbed you. We went as a family- it was so nice to see Lisa again!

We broke no rules. We just timed our putting dirty dishes back in the hallway just right so we could see eachother and wave.

Our good friend Sarah put a few items in our room before arrival. Luca asked for nutella. There is no bread exposed- well done son. And thank you Sarah!!

Luca after napping with headphones.

Apprehensive about things to do? what was I worried about!
The best part of the week was having ample time to talk with Wilder back home as she quarantined at college. Here are a few screenshots Lisa took.

I wonder what we will do during our quarantine at home?

Signs

I like signs. In all their forms. Here are a few I've seen recently.

Okay so this I thought was just stating the obvious: how to flush. But then I remembered I was in Japan and saw the word "ecowasher". Almost shot me out of the stall.

This is a sign from Wilder's new college town. Wouldn't take too many shenanigans to turn it into a big old sign for DAD.

This is a sign that Wilder looks to be continuing the tradition of fine school identification cards.

This is a sign we all got the "wear your cycles of life hat" memo.

This is a sign its springtime in Eagle. Plus, doesn't Lisa look so lovely!

This is a sign that someone at Dremel had me in mind when they wrote the owner's manual. (and no, of course I have not read the manual)

This is a sign that Lisa Morton just gave me a new gnome and I should probably start collecting something new.

Alpine forget-me-nots, a sign you are near the top.

A sign that maybe Tom Kiddoo was hiking this trail the day before you.

A sign that Axel has been tricked by uncle Innes: "You want to make ice cream? c'mon it will be fun"

A sign that I need to start learning to needlepoint- this is awesome.

A sign that my training for my covid test is paying off! Someone told me it feels like they get up there all the way to your knuckles.

I'd like to move this sign up to our yard

Good god- what kind of work zone is this? I wanna see... oh wait no I don't.

A sure sign of a future collectors item. I was going to buy one but it was 30$! Yikes

The day we climbed Mt. Sherman Alexie

Sherlock decided he wanted to climb a peak. And who were we to say no? We bundled up our gear for Mt. Sherman. Named after the Union general William Tecumsah Sherman I decided to go with a more modern Sherman- Alexie (please read his work if you haven't). We had a nice day, Windy at the top but the sandwiches still tasted amazing.

"Do I have any food in my teeth?" she asked me...

At the top a hiker took our picture and good thing they were liberal with the snaps- are we ever all looking normal?

Close enough!

We even made a few turns on the way down!

As normal as this summer is going to get

We knew it wasn't going to be a normal summer- we were still working on lesson plans, we couldn't go see live music... but it really wasn't too bad. We realized that we quite enjoy just being in our house with nowhere to go. Here is what we got up to- as normal as we could get!

Baseball game. A bit smaller but still a fun fun day. Sherlock even got dressed for action!

We had one driveway movie. Sandlot... again. It never gets old.

Jim trained his camp robber Elvis, to take food out of your hand or off your head. Even knowing this, Wilder seems less than comfortable.

Hiked down to Gilman to look about.

I worked on my trampoline action shots. They are getting clearer I think.

It snowed... not strange- totally normal actually

My family bought axes for father's day! I proved quite adept. Wilder may be the family archer but I am the axe man.
*disclaimer- I bought the axes, I couldn't help it.

We did have some sad news: Our wedding toaster bit the dust. Lisa mourned.

This is still our normal morning: drink coffee and stare at homestake. Today was unique as the airplane was making acute angles!

Didn't catch anything (I never do) but had an enjoyable evening fishing with Mort.

Not to be deterred by a little sprinkle, Lisa enjoys her chiminea.

So glad this part of our summer stayed normal. Getting to go to lake powell and watch the cousins hang out is awesome. This year didn't disappoint.

"Who's your hair stylist?" "Who's yours?"

Luca and I absolutely crushed Hawaiian night this year.

A few other things that were normal:
-older sisters telling younger brothers things: "headphones work in your nose too"
(and then brothers trying it)

-Dad telling Luca he would buy him a jacket at a yard sale if he wore the cone of shame. (I didn't think he would)

-Bob. The ladies still love him

-thrift shopping. And what a find this year! Ryan Zastrow's #25 bball jersey.

-I made some art... and drank some beer

-and some more art

Wilder still reads a bunch. Here she is in the hammock in the tree house.

Lovely sunsets are still normal

Lisa and I have known for a while that we really like to hang out together. This summer cemented this knowledge but also brought in the kids too. These two are fun to be with! They must get that from their mother.
